Weird War II, Project: Monster Mash
Bureau of Arcane Defense
The Bureau of Arcane Defense of B.A.D. was signed into existence by a secret Presidential order by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Spring of 1941. It created a hidden branch of the Department of War with the mission to locate, study, capture/recruit, and train monsters. Originally call Project: Monster Mash, the idea was to use monsters against the terrors that Nazi produced. American agents and spies had long discovered Hitler’s occult ambitions. Normal troops were largely ineffective to such supernatural threats. So top military think tanks came up with the idea of fighting fire with fire.
Throughout late spring the Department of War investigated individuals who had claimed to have encountered strange things during their service. Often times selecting the individuals perseverance of body and mind in the face of such insanity inducing things. Throughout the summer of 41, the project investigated every strange claim and story they heard in hopes of finding a monster. It wasn’t until July 4th they recruited their first monster.
The next few months allowed the B.A.D. to capture and recruit dozens of monsters sending them to one of their secret bases.
